Strange Flowers are Delightful
Vibrant hues and unusual forms are a particular joy to create, these toad lilies are a great example. Hand-painting is the key.
The Art and Craft of Crepe Paper Flowers
I create floral art from crepe paper, wire and glue, completely by hand. Along the way, the original paper may get crimped, twisted, or tinted and dyed with inks, pastels, acrylic paint, or whatever else is at hand. The intent is to capture that moment of happiness a lovely flower can give, and allow it to linger ...
Crepe paper florals last - they don't wilt and they don't need water. No variety is too exotic or rare - the season, climate, and growing conditions are always right!
There's no end to the varieties of flowers, both real and in my imagination, and therein lies both the challenge and the fun! Like Alice in Through the Looking Glass said: '...though she managed to pick plenty of beautiful rushes as the boat glided by, there was always a more lovely one that she couldn't reach. " The prettiest are always further ! " '
About the artist
I'm Valerie Holliday, and working with crepe paper has become my passion. A snap decision led to me making hundreds of flowers for my daughter's wedding. To my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge, and learned that crepe paper blooms delight everyone who sees them! So I decided to keep creating flowers and growing my skills as an artist. It is my pleasure to share my ever-evolving portfolio with you through this website. I am a proud member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, Haverford Chapter. Currently, I exhibit at select crafts shows and will consider inspiring commissions.
